Setting up a device
Put your device on Wi‑Fi from your phone
If your device came with a QR code on its label, you can set it up with the Device Configs app.
- 1
Plug it in
Give the device power and keep your phone nearby.
- 2
Scan the code on the label
Use your phone’s camera. The Device Configs app opens on your device’s page.
- 3
Choose your Wi‑Fi and type the password
The device tells you when it’s online, or what went wrong.
If something goes wrong
- The app can’t find my device
- Keep your phone within a few steps of the device and make sure it has power. If it was set up before, check its instructions for how to start setup again (often holding a button while you plug it in).
- It says the password is wrong
- Check the Wi‑Fi password, including capital letters, and type it again. You don’t need to start over.
- It can’t find my network
- Move the device closer to your router. Many devices only join 2.4 GHz networks, so choose that network if your router has two.
- The code on the device won’t scan
- Wipe the label and try in better light. You can also type the code printed under the QR code into the app.
- I have an iPhone
- The iPhone version of Device Configs is coming soon. For now, set the device up from an Android phone.
Still stuck? The maker of your device can help: look for their help link on the device’s page in the app.
